An elementary school principal from Elk Grove will be in Washington, D.C. this week after getting a surprise invitation to attend the State of the Union address.

“I’m a little nervous,” Mary Beth Kropp admitted. “I’m not normally in the same room as the President of the United States.”

Kropp will be the guest of Congressman Ami Bera. As the principal of Foulks Ranch Elementary School, she came to know Bera, whose daughter attended the school.

Kropp will be keenly interested in hearing what the President has to say about education.

“Education really needs help and really needs support.”

You can watch President Obama’s State of the Union address on FOX40. The speech is scheduled to start at 6 p.m., Tuesday.
