ELK GROVE, Calif. (KTXL) — The Sacramento Police Department said two officers shot a man who was going to be arrested on a warrant for financial crimes.

Police said they spotted him in the parking lot of the apartment complex on Di Lusso Drive in Elk Grove. According to police, it’s not unusual for them to go outside their jurisdiction and into another city when serving warrants.

“When they approached that subject to take him into custody, he was armed with a handgun. At some point during the officers trying to take him into custody, the subject was armed with a firearm, and an officer-involved shooting occurred,” Sgt. Zach Eaton said.

It’s unclear whether the armed man pointed his weapon at the officers first, or if the officers demanded that he drop the gun and he did not comply. A gun was recovered from the scene.

The man was taken to the hospital in serious condition. But he is expected to survive.

Police said he is also suspected in a separate assault in Sacramento.
