SACRAMENTO—

Four Sacramento area animal shelters are teaming up to try and clean house this weekend.

The effort, being called the “Empty Our Shelters Project,” aims to have Sacramentans adopt 500 animals from the four shelters.

All animals from each of the four shelters will be up for adoption for only $20. The discount is made possible by grant money from the ASPCA distributed to dozens of shelters nationwide.

The Sacramento SPCA is also encouraging people to visit the web sites of participating shelters, and spread the word about the adoption effort on social media using the hashtag, #EmptySacShelters.

“So if you see an animal that you think is great but you can’t adopt them, post them, let people know about it,” said Tracie Popma, public relations manager for the Sacramento SPCA. “If you bring an animal into your home, post it. Let us know. Let’s see that happy ending out there.”
