The man who died after a small aircraft crashed in Martis Valley Tuesday has been identified as James Duncan Harrell, 24, of Sacramento, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

TRUCKEE, Calif. (KTXL) — One person died and another was injured after a small aircraft crashed in Martis Valley Tuesday afternoon, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.
The Truckee Fire Protection District reported the single-engine Cirrus SR20 was cleared for departure around 10:45 a.m. from the Truckee Tahoe Airport.
Moments later, the aircraft crashed nose-down into an open field close to a neighborhood, according to Truckee fire officials.
Officials said one of the pilots onboard died at the scene of the crash.
The other pilot was flown to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno. At last check, fire officials said the surviving pilot was in stable condition.
The Federal Aviation Administration reported the plane’s ballistic parachute had been deployed.
There are no reports that the aircraft hit or caused damage to homes, FAA spokesperson Emma Duncan told FOX40.
Truckee Fire crews determined there was no fuel leak or fire caused by the crash.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are currently investigating.
