Firefighters worked all evening to control a fire that destroyed a machine shop and threatened to engulf thousands of wood pallets stored on commercial land on Lesvos Court in Lincoln.
“The building was used for equipment maintenance so it had welding supplies, air tanks, all of that,” Cal Fire Battalion Chief Steve Robinson said.
Cal Fire told FOX40 the 3,000-square-foot shop was occupied by Green Solutions.
However the 30-acre property is home to several businesses, including a wood grinding shop operated by John Mehalakis.
“I was at home and I got a call from, just someone I know, they asked me if we were burning anything on the property, and I said, no we have wood. We don’t burn anything,” Mehalakis said.
He told FOX40 his father owns the 30-acre lot, which houses two family operated businesses. Mehalakis said neither of those sustained damage. He said three tenants who occupied the machine shop lost property.
“The manager of the pallet yard, he was just getting off work and spotted the fire and, I don’t know in the back if there were people there or not,” Mehalakis said.
Cal Fire is working to determine the cause of the fire.
Mehalakis said his family has always been afraid of fires, so they have good insurance.
“I mean we lost the building, but that’s why, insurance, and luckily no one was hurt,” Mehalakis said.
