STOCKTON — Two firefighters were injured battling a five-alarm fire in Stockton Thursday night that damaged at least four homes and a business.
The fire was reported on East Flora and North Pilgrim streets. Winds fueled the flames and the fire spread to at least four homes east of a mattress warehouse, where the fire was first reported.
Four-hundred mattresses outside of the warehouse were destroyed. The exterior of the building was damaged.
At least two homes sustained “extreme damage,” according to the Stockton Fire Department.
Two firefighters sustained minor injuries fighting the flames. The fire department reports they were both hospitalized. No civilians were injured.
According to the police department, 500 Pacific Gas and Electric customers were without power due to damage caused by the flames.
Around 11 p.m., the fire department reported they had the blaze under control. Firefighters will remain at the scene for several hours and the area will be blocked off.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
