SACRAMENTO — Sacramento’s Front Street Animal Shelter has adopted out hundreds of pets since free adoptions began last week.

Thanks to a generous donation from Sacramento area realtor Kim Pacini-Hauch, all animal adoptions are free through Dec. 31.

In response to the offer, the shelter adopted out 223 pets last week and there was a line out the door both Saturday and Sunday.

Even though the shelter was nearly emptied after all those adoptions, it fills up again quickly, taking in between 30 and 70 animals a day, according to shelter manager Gina Knepp.

The free adoption special has received international attention on social media.

Sacramento’s Front Street Shelter is open Wednesday through Sunday.
