Thanks to about 80,000 responses to a single Facebook post from the City Animal Shelter, and experts in their field, there is a very strong belief that the animal who was picked up two weeks ago off the streets of downtown Sacramento is about 25 percent wolf.

There is no way to know for sure unless DNA testing is done, but because it’s illegal to own a wolf-hybrid, it may shed some light on his situation.

”It could be the owner was afraid to come forward thinking they would be in trouble for possessing such an animal without the right permitting,” said Gina Knepp the Shelter’s Manager.  “I hope that’s not the case, but we’ll never know.”

That’s because Thursday morning the big fella is headed to Southern California.  The Shelter partnering with a special group  that deals with wolf-hybrids.

“He’ll be joining a sanctuary of 26 other similar-like animals,” Knepp said. “They do a lot of work with youth at-risk, so we thought it would be a very nice program for him to live out his days.”
