UPDATE: I-5 northbound and southbound has reopened in the Sacramento area. Drivers are asked to proceed with caution and watch out for first responders clearing the area.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KTXL) —  All north and southbound lanes of Interstate 5 and sections of Interstate 80 are closed due to a large grass fire in Sacramento, according to the Sacramento Fire Department and California Highway Patrol.

The fire is burning near Arena Boulevard and for those traveling northbound on I-5, the closures at Garden Highway and end at I-80, according to officials.

For drivers going southbound, the closures begin at Arena Boulevard and end at Garden Highway, according to officials.

I-80 is closed on both westbound and eastbound lanes between the El Camino and Truxel exits, according to CHP.

Fire officials said containing the blaze is difficult due to high winds fueling spot fires all along I-5 and the surrounding areas. No evacuations are needed at this time, according to officials.
