STOCKTON —

A gun at a Stockton inmate care facility has gone missing.

The weapon is missing from the California Health Care Facility on Austin Road in Stockton.

The California Department of Corrections says the semi-automatic handgun was unaccounted for during a weapons inventory check early Saturday morning.

The gun is used as protection by jail staff who transport inmates. In addition to the gun, three loaded magazines, one magazine pouch ant two holsters have also vanished.

“At this point, there is no indication that the weapon is there. It hasn’t disrupted operations within the facility, either. This is a medical facility for CDCR inmates and patients,” said Vicky Waters, the press secretary for the CDCR.

She said the property has been searched several times, but staff haven’t found anything.

Staff sign out weapons before they take them, but this one was never returned.

Nearby law enforcement agencies have been put on alert about the missing weapon.
