ROCKLIN — A mother came home Tuesday to find her daughter dead, prompting a manhunt for the suspect — a 14-year-old boy who fled into nearby fields in Rocklin, before he was ultimately arrested, according to police.

Just before 11 a.m. the Rocklin Police Department responded to a 911 call from a woman living on Monument Springs Drive near Calverhall Way. The woman said she came home and found her 13-year-old daughter dead. The Rocklin Police Department has identified the girl as Ashley Wood.

When police arrived, they found the teen girl in her bedroom with blunt force trauma to the head. The girl died from her injuries, police said.

A 14-year-old boy had run into some fields near the home, police said.

“He took off running in a field, a greenbelt area,” Rocklin police Capt. Lon Milka said.

After a 40 minute search, police took the boy into custody without incident near Greenbae Road.

Police said a woman and the two juveniles live at the home. The suspect and victims are relatives, but their relationship is not known.

“Obviously shock, that’s the initial reaction,” said neighbor Dan Chiesa.

Neighbors say the home is in a safe community where many children play outside.

Mary Alvarez never suspected something so violent from this family.

“I feel so sad for the family, and I know the kids. I saw them play all the time, the grandma takes care of them,” she said.

The police department is investigating and the crime scene is being processed.

The FBI and Department of Justice are aiding in the investigation.
