A blood transfusion is needed every two seconds in the United States. The crucial need is why BloodSource and FOX40 teamed up for a blood drive that brought hundreds out to West Sacramento Friday.

Scott MacGregor's daughter Taryn is one little girl who benefited from drives like this. She was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder two years ago at age seven and received 53 blood transfusions since her diagnosis.

"What an incredible thing to see that blood come in the door when your child is in need of it," said MacGregor.

The blood drive also offered a chance to register to be part of a bone marrow transplant list. Be The Match takes a swab of the inside of participants cheeks and if they are a match they can help save a life.

Taryn was in need of a bone marrow transplant after the numerous blood transfusions she received. Through Be The Match a stranger donated his bone marrow to her and now after a year and a half out of school she was finally able to go back to class with her friends.

"How do you possibly thank somebody for giving somebody a gift as precious as that," said her father.

To donate blood you have to be 16 years or older and be in good health. The whole process takes about one hour, but just one pint of blood can save up to three lives.
