An innocent driver is dead after another driver allegedly led CHP officers on a pursuit from San Andreas all the way to Downtown Stockton.
CHP and Stockton Police are investigating the incident and say the man who started it all may have been drunk. Police Officers identify the suspect as 29-year-old Sol Eichner of Stockton. Both CHP and Stockton Police officers investigated the intersection of Main and Union for hours Wednesday afternoon.
The CHP told FOX40 they got a call that a driver was drunk in San Andreas. They said officers attempted to pull the man over, but he sped off.
They said the suspect traveled westbound on State Route 26 and eventually ended up in Stockton. That’s when officers lost sight of the suspect’s car and called off the pursuit. Minutes later, Stockton Police got a 911 call about a crash near Union and Main Streets.
By the time authorities came to the area, an innocent driver was dead.
Witnesses had detained the suspect, according to CHP.
Stockton Police officers took Eichner into custody. "Right now there will be numerous felonies that this driver could be facing from vehicle manslaughter and also seeing if he is impaired,” Officer Joe Silva, the Spokesman for the Stockton Police Department explained.
The victim’s identity and Eichner’s blood alcohol content level have not been released.
