On the third day of the investigation into 8-year-old Leila Fowler’s murder, Calaveras County Sheriff’s detectives are still looking for whomever is responsible.

Since Fowler’s killing, investigators have gathered fingerprints and DNA evidence. They hope to have that processed by the end of the week.

Despite a vague suspect description early in the investigation, deputies now say they have no suspect or person of interest.

Deputies are still talking with Fowler’s 12-year-old brother, who was home with her when an intruder reportedly broke in and stabbed the girl several times. Their parents are away at a youth baseball game.

A vigil will be held Tuesday night at Jenny Lind Elementary, where Fowler went to school.

Fowler’s family has set up a memorial fund. Donations can be mailed to F&M Bank, 18836 E. Main Street, Linden, Calif. 95236.

The routing number is 1211 08441 and the account number is 421934101.
