SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. (TKXL) — There was a large law enforcement presence near Greenberry Drive and Hackberry Lane after a chase involving the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday night.

Authorities reportedly surrounded the person who had led them on a chase.

According to the sheriff’s office, someone called them around 8 p.m. Tuesday that a man was driving a vehicle in an “incoherent manner.”

Authorities were able to find the car from the air and directed deputies to its location. A chase then ensued when the sheriff’s office tried to contact the driver.

The sheriff’s office described the chase as “erratic,” and it eventually ended near Greenberry Drive. The driver got out of the car with a knife, and deputies tried to talk to him from a distance.

The sheriff’s office said the driver got out of and into the car several times while holding the knife. The standoff lasted more than three hours, with negotiators on the scene.

The driver was ultimately arrested and taken to a hospital, where he was placed on a mental-health hold.

This is a developing story.
