A 40-foot redwood tree was struck by lightning in the early morning hours of Easter Sunday.
“It was a noise we had never ever heard before. It sounded more like a plain crashing,” said Jen Guarnaccia, the homeowner.
When the family went outside to inspect the damage, what they saw didn’t look much like a lightning strike.
“It was like somebody had put a little grenade there and it went boom,” said Guarnaccia.
Tree limbs scattered all over Bradshaw Road. Several feet of the trunk splintered and flew through the air.
Guarnaccia’s roof sustained some damage, so did the neighbor’s fence and a car. The family plans to replace the dead tree with a new redwood tree.
