COLUSA — After a year and a half on the run, Salvador Garcia Jr. is in a Colusa County jail awaiting trial.
The U.S. Marshals Service found the suspect in Guadalajara, Mexico, last week.
He’s accused of killing his ex-girlfriend, Karen Garcia in 2018. She was 21 years old and the mother of his child.
“I’m just always going to miss her. I literally have not stopped thinking about her since the day she went missing,” said Linda Quintero.
A life centered on loss has been Quintero’s reality since losing her best friend, Karen.
“It’s always going to be hard. Some days it will be easier. I’ll only think of her once,” she said.
Garcia went missing in January of last year, a day after her sister, Jessica, was killed in a car crash.
Police didn’t suspect any foul play until they found Garcia’s body in her car in Woodland days later.
Garcia Jr. became the prime suspect but authorities were confident he fled to Mexico. That led to the launch of a massive manhunt with multiple law enforcement agencies involved.
“Always having to worry, where’s Sal? What if he’s back?” Quintero questioned until his recent capture.
Quintero started a Facebook page to help gather tips.
“I packed everything I knew into two flyers, one in English and one in Spanish. I put a lot of locations on there of where possibly he could be because he had family,” she said.
One of those locations was Guadalajara, Mexico.
“I’m more at peace. I don’t have to look in the closets anymore. I can just think about Karen and not have to worry about Sal in the back of my head,” Quintero expressed.
Quintero prays he stays behind bars.
“I just don’t want to have to worry about him. I want to move on with my life, you know, get older. I just want him in jail somewhere where he can’t hurt anyone else,” she said.
Garcia Jr. faces murder and domestic violence charges. He does not have the option of bail.
