ROSEVILLE—

Police in Roseville found themselves chasing after a man suspected of stealing a woman’s purse while she received communion at a church Sunday morning.

According to the Roseville Police Department, witnesses at the St. Rose Catholic Church along Vine Avenue called police around 8:30 a.m. after they saw a man take a woman’s purse.

The woman had left her purse in the pew as she went to the front of the church to receive communion.

Police say the witness who called police followed the man outside of the church and saw him ride away on a bicycle.

Officers were able to catch up to the suspect at a store along Douglas Boulevard. They soon recovered the woman’s credit cards and other unspecified items.

The suspect, who has not been named, was identified as a 22-year-old Roseville resident. Police note that two similar thefts at the same church have happened over the past week.
