SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KTXL) — A missing Carmichael teenager was found dead Thursday along the American River Bike Trail after his high school says he took his own life.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office reported Spencer Bei’s body was discovered in the area of mile marker 11.5, which is located on the north side of the river between Watt Avenue and Bradshaw Road.

Jesuit High School first reported Bei’s disappearance Thursday at his family’s request. He was last seen Tuesday in Carmichael. At the time, he was wearing black clothes and carrying a backpack.

On Friday, the high school reported the 17-year-old high school senior had died by suicide.

“We mourn his passing and grieve his absence in our community,” Jesuit High School wrote in a release. “Mourning the death of a student is perhaps the hardest thing we do as a school community. It is during these times that we rely on the strength of our faith in God and in one another.”

A Mass and remembrance will be held at the chapel on Jesuit’s campus at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Chapel of the North American Martyrs will remain open until 6 p.m. Counseling services will be made available to students returning to school Monday.
