Suspect dead after Modesto police shooting at Motel 6

MODESTO, Calif. (KTXL) — Gunshots rang out at a motel in Modesto Friday night.

Modesto police officers said they were responding to reports of a suspect with outstanding warrants at the Motel 6 on West Orangeburg Avenue just after 9 p.m.

Officials said when the officers made contact, shots were fired and the unidentified suspect was hit.

Witnesses say they heard multiple gunshots from inside a room around 9:45 p.m.

The suspect died from the gunshot wounds, according to officials. No officers were injured in the shooting.

A large police presence was seen at the motel, along with an ambulance.

People staying at the motel were seen out of their rooms, unable to get back inside while officers investigated and crime tape surrounded the scene.
