Modesto Regional Fire was busy Sunday afternoon, battling two vacant house fires.

The first fire came near Frazine Road and Garst Road. Crews were sent to the area around 12:50 p.m., and the house was fully involved upon arrival. Because the house was fairly old, crews needed extra efforts to put out the fire.

The second was reported just two and a half hours later near Debonaire Drive and Muncy Drive. The back bedroom had heavy black smoke coming from it, and the rest of the interior was attacked by the crews as well. The second blaze took about 20 minutes to contain.

No one was injured or even inside either home. Officials believe suspicious play may be involved, and a possible suspect was detained and questioned. The total damage estimate was put at $15,000.

Ruben Dominguez filed this report.
