MODESTO-
Police in Modesto say a man was seen with a gun near Christine Sipherd Elementary School (map) on Monday afternoon. The school was temporarily locked down.
The Modesto Police Department was assisted by the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department who sent a chopper into the air to search for the suspect.
The suspect came onto Sipherd’s campus claiming a gunman was chasing him. Police took him into custody, and said there was no second suspect as initially thought.
Police officers were doing a sweep through the campus, clearing classrooms and walking children to their parents until the lock down was over just after 6:30 p.m.
