4 a.m. Friday morning, Nevada County Dispatch received a call of a house on fire, with at least one person trapped.

As fire crews would soon realize there were two people inside, but the emergency responders were too late.

The fire chief could not say whether the two died from the fire, or perhaps something else that may have happened before the flames.

Neighbors tell us the two who died are a mother and son, the son confined to a wheel chair.

With the rural area off of Country Circle, those who lived here didn’t even know right away which house was on fire, wondering if it may have been someone they knew.
