A 25-year-old from Sacramento died in a motorcycle accident on Thursday, after colliding with a car and then a big rig.

According to the California Highway Patrol, North Sacramento division, the man was driving a 2007 Kawasaki Ninja EX500D on Interstate 80 west of Northgate Blvd. Police say he was splitting between the #1 and #2 lanes at speeds between 50 and 60 miles per hour, and was approaching rapidly slowing traffic.

As traffic was coming to a stop, Richard Emery, 37, from Sacramento was driving a 2012 Dodge Ram pickup in the #1 lane, and Alberto Velazquez, 53, from Modesto, was driving a 2006 Peterbilt big rig with a 2013 Great Dane trailer in the #2 lane.

As traffic slowed, the left side of the Kawasaki sideswiped the right side of the pickup truck, and caused him to veer into the back of the big rig trailer.

The motorcyclist was killed on impact.

Nobody else was injured in the accident, and it is unknown at this time if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the crash.

The victim’s identification and a toxicology report are pending from the Coroner’s office.
