SACRAMENTO –
Monday’s recommendation by the NBA Board of Governors Relocation Committee is not the final vote on the futre of the Sacramento Kings, but it may as well be, in the minds of many Kings fans.
The board’s unanimous (12-0) recommendation to deny a Seattle relocation effort almost assures the team will be sold to a Sacramento ownership group assembled under the leadership of Mayor Kevin Johnson, and a downtown Sacramento arena plan will move forward.
“There are still a lot of things that need to happen,” said Carmichael Dave, the leader of a grassroots fan effort to keep the team in Sacramento. “But the NBA made a resounding statement today… that this fan base has won, and proven itself once again.”
“Today will be the day we remember as the day that Sacramento won,” Dave concluded.
