ROSEVILLE — Just days after FOX40 first shared the story of Vinny Desautels, the 7-year-old Roseville boy who grew out his hair for cancer patients only to face his own serious diagnosis, the crowdfunding campaign for his medical expenses has raised nearly half a million dollars.

The “Victory for Vinny” campaign began May 1. As of May 11, the campaign has raised $435,041 of its $500,000 goal. A total of 10,519 donations were made.

An update on Vinny’s condition was posted Tuesday evening, saying he had a bone marrow biopsy, which will help doctors determine the exact type of cancer he has and figure out a method of treatment.

Since FOX40’s report on Vinny aired Saturday evening, the story was picked up by Buzzfeed, Uproxx and CNN, among other outlets.
