OXNARD, Calif. — Two-off duty firefighters visiting Southern California for vacation helped put out a house fire, Stockton Fire Department said.

Stockton fire captain Mike Smith and his daughter’s boyfriend Jake Tibbetts, a firefighter for Greenville Fire Protection District, were alerted about a house fire a few blocks from where they were. When they arrived, no local crews were on scene, so they went to work.

The two forced entry into a neighboring residence and saved an elderly woman and her three dogs. When local fire crews arrived, Smith and Tibbetts continued to help with putting out the flames.
