One child is dead and several other people were injured in a boating accident on the San Joaquin River near Lathrop, investigators said.

Five adults and five children were riding in the boat when it hit a rock under water, according to preliminary findings.

Several children, who were all wearing life preservers, were thrown from the boat, according to investigators.

Police believe that one child was swept under the boat where he she suffered fatal injuries.

The adults riding in the boat were able to pull all of the children out of the water and bring them onshore, where they were treated by first responders.

The driver of the boat and two children have been transported to the hospital.

Investigators do not believe the accident was drought related.
