As we ring in the New Year, new laws and ordinances will also go into effect.
One of them will be the ban on single use plastic bags city of Sacramento. Shoppers will now have to provide their own, reusable bags. If you don't bring your own bag, you will have to buy one for at least 10 cents.
The city's ordinance is designed to encourage Sacramento shoppers to hold onto their bags and reuse them the next time they shop. That's where Roplast Industries comes in.
The Oroville company makes plastic bags tough enough to be considered reusable. With Sacramento joining 140 other California cities in banning single use bags, companies like Roplast have seen huge growth.
"We have been growing steadily over the past few years with the ordinances, as they pass, and we have been able to upgrade our equipment get some new machines, hire people and the business is doing well. " Roplast Sales Manager Darrell Costello said.
They now sell to Raley's, Bel-Air, Grocery Outlet, Foodmaxx and Savemart just to name a few.
