CARMICHAEL — One person died in a crash that shut down roadways in Carmichael on Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened about 2:30 p.m. near Walnut Avenue and Hope Lane.

The CHP said a Dodge Neon was traveling southbound on Walnut Avenue and a Ford F-150 truck was traveling northbound on the same road.

For an unknown reason, the Dodge Neon swerved into the two-way left turn lane toward the Ford. The two vehicles collided head-on in the northbound lanes.

A female passenger in the Dodge was transported to an area hospital where she later died.

The driver of the Neon was transported to the hospital with moderate injuries. The driver of the Ford had minor injuries.

The crash is still being investigated.
