YUBA CITY — What started as a hit-and-run in Roseville Monday turned into a high-speed police chase that spanned across three counties and ended in an officer-involved shooting in Yuba City. Ultimately, police took the suspect into custody after boxing in his vehicle. By Tuesday, he was identified as 37-year-old Adam Carr of Pleasanton. Carr was still in the hospital Tuesday afternoon with injuries that were not life-threatening. While most people in Yuba City heard how the police chase ended, Jacki Lee had a front-row seat. “I was on the phone with a member and I heard about seven gunshots,” Lee told FOX40. Lee is the business and office manager at the Yuba-Sutter Chamber of Commerce, which is located at the corner of Highway 99 and Franklin Road, where officers opened fire on the hit-and-run suspect. “Saw a guy or a person sitting in the car and there were police all around with their guns aimed at him yelling, ‘Get out of the car,’” she explained. Roseville police say the chase started as officers were searching for a silver van suspected of hit-and-run on Sunrise Avenue. Sacramento police say the van was stolen in their city around 9 a.m., around an hour before the hit-and-run in Roseville. Officers found the stolen van in a parking lot not too far away near Eureka Road but the driver sped off. The California Highway Patrol got involved, chasing Carr to North Sacramento before he turned north up Highway 99 toward Sutter County. Officers at the scene said the suspect vehicle was going the wrong way up Highway 99 over the Feather River bridge. At certain points during the chase, Carr was speeding at over 100 mph. The vehicle also rammed a police cruiser during the chase, investigators said. The pursuit ended in Yuba City and at the Franklin Road intersection, Yuba City police also got involved, boxing the suspect vehicle in. That’s when Carr hit a police motorcycle and at least one officer decided to open fire. Warning: The video below may be disturbing to some viewers.
Klint Schroeder was stopped on the road with car trouble when he saw the bullet-riddled end of the crime spree. “The mini-van comes flying through and he does a U-turn right here behind me,” Schroeder told FOX40. “Comes back, goes down the shoulder and goes in and looks like he was trying to hit the motorcycle officer. And he dove out of the way, did some James Bond tuck and roll, hops up and just starts shooting the guy.” “The cops were just all standing there, aiming their guns at him and there was even a cop with a police dog and the police dog was well under control,” Lee said. Roseville police say they arrested Carr and immediately took him to the hospital. “He was kind of leaning forward and then he leaned back a little bit but he never got out of the car. So I assumed he was hurt and I’m sure they did as well,” Lee told FOX40. No officers were hurt.

The Sutter County District Attorney’s Office will be handling the officer-involved shooting investigation. Meanwhile, Roseville police will be investigating the hit-and-run, which happened in their jurisdiction.
