NORTH SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento police are investigating a shooting death in North Sacramento.
Police say the shooting happened near Eleanor Avenue and Rio Linda Boulevard just prior to 9:45 p.m. Sunday.
The police department says a man in his 30s was shot several times. He was pronounced dead at the scene outside of the Westwind Apartments.
The manager of the apartments told FOX40 the shooting had nothing to do with the complex. According to management, the fight started off the property and then the man was chased onto the property where he was shot. They also said the victim was not a tenant.
Suzanne McBride and Barbara Melis live at different ends of the apartment complex, but they both heard at least four gunshots late Sunday night. Melis was inside her apartment. McBride, on the other hand, was walking back to her place from the store when she heard the shots and saw emergency crews race to her building.
"All I remember is walking and seeing the cops pull his body out to the ground, and he was dead," McBride told FOX40.
Neighbors said they felt safe in the neighborhood and thought it was a good area.
"I mean the apartments are good, yeah there is homeless and everything, but this is the first time you had this happen," McBride said.
"It scares me, but it's still better out here 'cause I hear less sirens and less stuff going on out here," Melis said.
No suspect or motive information has been released. The identity of the victim has not been reported by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office.
