SACRAMENTO — Officers were in downtown Sacramento Thursday night investigating what was reported as “unidentified hazardous material.”
The investigation was launched in an alley in the area of S and 6th streets around 6 p.m., according to the Sacramento Police Department.
An explosive ordnance disposal unit was called to the scene along with police and fire crews.
Homes closest to the scene were evacuated.
Later Thursday, the police department reported the substance was not hazardous and the scene was cleared.
