MODESTO — The Modesto Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting at a home on Rosina Avenue.

Authorities were called to the home just before 8 a.m. Friday. When they arrived, they found a man who had been shot. He was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

The man was later identified as 29-year-old James Seth Brackett, who lived inside the home.

“The thought that that could happen even just in your own neighborhood, it’s disconcerting,” neighbor Tracie Johnson said.

Investigators say they are trying to figure out who may have killed Brackett.

“We do not have any substantial suspect information at this point,” Modesto Police Sergeant Kalani Souza said.

Neighbors say they heard multiple gunshots at the home around the time of the homicide. Some also shared ongoing concerns.

One neighbor, who did not wish to be identified, says the house Brackett lived in had been a problem for some time.

Police say officers have been called to the home in the past but did not say why.

Anyone with information is asked to call Modesto PD Detective Martin at 209-342-6116.
