STOCKTON—

Police in Stockton are saying that a man was street racing before he crashed and his car caught fire.

The crash happened on New Year’s Eve just after 5:30 p.m. According to Stockton Police logs, 23-year-old Andrew Lopez was racing another car when he lost control near Sonora and Lincoln Streets and hit a pole.

Inside the car with Lopez were two minors, police say. Lopez is said to have tried to run from the scene, but officers caught up to him quickly.

All three were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in the crash. Lopez was later arrested and now faces felony DUI and child endangerment charges, among other traffic charges.
