MODESTO — Crime scene tape and police cars lined the intersection of Lita Court and Pecos Avenue in Modesto just hours after a deadly shooting in broad daylight.

“Around 2:34 this afternoon, we started receiving calls about a shooting on Lita Court,” said Adam Foster with the Modesto Police Department.

There Modesto police found several people suffering from gunshot wounds in the street.

“During this time three people were shot,” Foster said. “It is confirmed as of this time that one of those people is deceased.”

Many people living near the scene said they heard several gunshots outside. One man told FOX40 a fight turned deadly when someone pulled out a gun.

“As of right now, the argument started here on the court. During that argument, it escalated and gunfire erupted,” Foster said.

The shooting that followed left one person dead and sent two others to the hospital.

While police continue to investigate, they’re asking anyone who witnessed the shooting to come forward.

“If anyone does have any information you can contact the Modesto Police Department directly,” Foster said.

The police department has not provided any suspect information and has not released any of the victims’ identities yet.
