MANTECA — A teenage driver is fighting for his life after Manteca police officers say he drove through a wall, hit a parked truck and then crashed into a family’s garage.

The accident took place around 5 a.m. Thursday on Pillsbury Road near Woodward Avenue.

“It was a horrific moment,” said Liliana Vasquez.

Despite the destruction of the place they call home, Vasquez and her family were concerned about the teenage driver who was behind the wheel.

“It’s a kid. I don’t know what he was doing, there’s no skid marks or nothing but I hope he’s OK, that’s all,” said Robert Bandoni, who was born and raised in the home and now owns it.

Sgt. Joshua Sweeten said the Toyota Camry that crashed was driven by a 16-year-old boy.

“Our major investigation team does a complete investigation to determine the cause of the collision,” Sgt. Sweeten said.

Sweeten told FOX40 the teenager was speeding on Pillsbury Road when he drove through a masonry wall near Woodward Avenue. Investigators say debris from the wall was later found 150 feet away.

The car then hit the white truck and crashed into the garage.

“We heard a thud, like it sounded more like an explosive type of thing,” Vasquez said. “We heard it, it woke me up. It was 5 o’clock in the morning.”

Vasquez and her parents are the tenants at the home that was hit. She said they rushed over to the driver.

“Luckily, there was a cop here already,” she explained.

Vasquez said moments later, the boy’s mother was by her son’s side.

“It was hard, it was even a hard thing for me to see,” Vasquez told FOX40.

As they continued to take stock of what was lost, their focus was on the driver and the life still ahead of him.

“Material stuff can get replaced but our lives or anyone’s lives, that’s not replaceable,” Vasquez said.

The Manteca Police Department reports they are still investigating why the crash happened.
