The El Dorado Union High School District Board of Trustees voted 5-0 in favor of releasing Paul Burke from his position as principal of Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills.
Burke will still be paid through the end of the 2015-16 school year.
He was placed on paid leave in November for an undisclosed personnel matter.
The decision to release him was made official at a special board meeting Monday night, much to the frustration of dozens of parents and students in attendance who support Burke.
Others in attendance supported the board members, saying there must have been a valid reason for the firing.
Neither the board president nor the superintendent would elaborate on the personnel matter.
Burke has enlisted the services of litigation attorney, Jake Flesher.
