SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. (KTXL) — A man riding an all-terrain vehicle died Thursday in Brannan Island State Park.

The Rio Vista Fire Department reports emergency crews were called out to the area along the Sacramento River around 4:35 p.m. to help someone who had been in an accident.

It happened after the man collided with a dirt berm while traveling on a dirt and gravel road, according to officials.

A witness said they found the man with the ATV on top of him.

Officials aren’t sure how long the man was pinned underneath the ATV, but the fire department says the man was dead when they arrived.

Officers from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the California Highway Patrol and the Department of Parks and Recreation launched an investigation into the deadly accident.
