Roseville Police officers are mourning the loss of a Border Patrol agent who had ties to the department and Roseville High School.

Alexander Giannini was killed this week in a traffic collision near Benson, Arizona. The 24-year-old was working as a U.S. Border Patrol Agent.

He was in a car with another Border Patrol Agent at the time of the accident, which is currently being investigated. The other agent in the car suffered only minor injuries.

“It is difficult expressing our thoughts and appreciation for their commitment and dedication to the mission knowing that whatever words we draw upon simply will not do justice to the sacrifices they made,” read a statement from CBP Commissioner R. Gil Kerlikowske.

Giannini grew up in Roseville, graduating from Roseville High School in 2008. He served with the Roseville Police Department in their Explorer Scout troop for about six years before he joined the Border Patrol.

On their Facebook page, Roseville Police stated “We’re grieving for Alex today, and send our heartfelt sympathy to his family and to his many friends and colleagues in both the Roseville Police Department and the U.S. Border Patrol’s Wilcox, Arizona station.”
