FAIR OAKS —

Sacramento Metro Fire crews were called out to a home in Fair Oaks on Thursday because a fawn was injured and stuck on a fence.

The young deer tried to jump a fence with its mother but didn’t quite make it. He was stuck with a broken leg, according to the fire department.

Crews determined the fawn needed medical help and started making phone calls to try to save him.

After talking with Kindred Spirits Fawn Rescue, firefighters covered the fawn’s eye, untangled him from the fence, splinted his broken leg and carried him back to a vehicle.

The young deer’s prognosis is good. Workers at the rescue facility say he has a broken hip that can be rehabbed.

The fawn was given fluids, antibiotics and painkillers, which are already helping.
