SACRAMENTO -- A Sacramento Police officer saved an elderly woman Saturday from a Westmoreland Way home engulfed in flames.

While patrolling the neighborhood the officer noticed residents near Havenhurst Drive running away from a large fire taking over their home. He was quickly told that an elderly woman was still trapped inside, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

Inside the burning home, the officer found the woman in a back bedroom and helped her get to safety.

Sacramento Fire Department crews were on scene at around 5 p.m., just as the officer and the elderly woman escaped the flames.

"Glad that no one was hurt," said neighbor James Hale. "I'm concerned because, you know, there was a lot of people that lived in the house. You know, two young, very young, kids, so I'm concerned about what they're going to do, where they're going to stay."

Officials have not reported any injuries at this time. The extent of the damages to the home has also not been reported.
