SACRAMENTO–

The Sacramento Food bank and Family Services gave out more than 11,000 turkeys to families who need them Monday morning.

Anyone who showed up got a turkey and all the sides to make a full Thanksgiving dinner. They gave out more than 5,000 meals, the other 6,000 turkeys were given to other nonprofits in Sacramento County.

Many families say without this help they wouldn’t be celebrating Thanksgiving with a turkey on the table.

The average Thanksgiving meal costs more than $50, a price tag too steep for many in the community.
