(KTXL) — In a Thursday news conference, Sacramento County Sheriff Jim Cooper said a suspect was arrested in connection with sexual assaults that occurred near Sacramento State in fall 2022.
Cooper said Nida Niazy, 31, was arrested by authorities in Germany and that he is currently awaiting extradition.
According to Cooper, the two victims were both Sacramento State students.
During the initial search for Niazy, authorities said they were looking for a man who went by the name “Zayn,” who they later determined to be Niazy.
Sacramento State Police Chief Chet Madison said that the assaults occurred on August 21 in Sacramento County and on September 18, this last one specifically on campus.
Niazy is not a student at Sacramento State, but Madison stated that he does have family in Sacramento.
FBI Special Agent Sean Regan said the FBI worked with Interpol and agents in Germany to facilitate the arrest.
Regan said Niazy was arrested on two local warrants as well as a federal warrant for “unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.”
