SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco police say they found a body set on fire in a downtown city alley, but do not know if the person was alive before the fire was started.
Officials attempted to put out the fire early Sunday, but the person was declared dead, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Monday.
The victim’s name and age have not been released. Police are treating the death as suspicious.
San Francisco police Sgt. Anthony Pedroza told KPIX that officers stumbled upon what they thought was a debris fire.
“They came up and saw it was a person. It was an obvious death to them. They called the paramedics,” he said. “There are no witnesses yet.”
