(FOX40.COM) — A head-on collision in the Banta area of Grant Line Road around 4 a.m. on Thursday resulted in the deaths of two men, according to California Highway Patrol.

The CHP said a 43-year-old man from East Palo Alto was driving eastbound on Grant Line Road near Bird Road when he drove into oncoming traffic.

The man collided head-on with a vehicle driven by a 37-year-old man from Stockton heading westbound on Grant Line Road.

The vehicle that crossed into the oncoming lane caught fire, the CHP said.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by paramedics.

The CHP is still investigating if alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash.

The roadway was reopened at 7:20 a.m. in both directions.

Grant Line Road is the main roadway through Tracy and connects it to the small community of Banta.
