A man left St. Hope School with the wrong child Thursday afternoon.
The girl was supposed to go straight to an after school program until 5:30 p.m., when her father would pick her up. Instead, the school’s principal says a man asked for the girl by name and left with her.
“They drove off, went to a restaurant, sat outside, and said he grabbed the wrong kid,” the girl’s father said, declining to be identified.
After about 45 minutes, the girl was returned to the school.
The principal says the man claimed he thought the girl was his niece.
To be cautious, the girl’s father took her to the emergency room to make sure she was fine. She was.
As for the school, the incident led to a new policy being put in place: all parents or legal guardians must show ID when picking up their children.
