Schools Placed on Lockdown as Police Search for Shooting Suspect in Modesto

MODESTO -- Police are investigating a shooting near East Rumble Road and Keller Street in Modesto.

The shooting happened on the 1700 block of East Rumble Road.

Police have one suspect in custody, but are still looking for others.

There are no reports of injuries.

Several streets in the area are closed and schools in the area were placed on lockdown as police looked for a suspect.

Beyer High School and Sylvan Elementary School were both on lockdown. The lockdowns have since been lifted.

The Modesto Police Department was serving search warrants related to a homicide from Wednesday night in the Rumble Road neighborhood. Officers said as they were serving the warrants, one of their detectives witnessed a shootout between two groups of people. Investigators said a suspect got out of his car and opened fire at another group. They drove off and officers said no victims have come forward.
