Authorities located the body of the second missing canoer in Donner Lake on Sunday afternoon.

The victim has been identified as 34-year-old Lucas Johnson. He was canoeing with 33-year-old Joshua Patterson when their vessel capsized on Friday, Truckee police said.

Johnson’s body was found in the water near where the boat capsized.

Patterson’s body was located by a CHP helicopter crew on Saturday morning.

Authorities don’t believe either victim was wearing a life jacket.

Captain Rob Leftwich with the Truckee Police Department was quoted as saying “our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Lucas and Joshua.”

Leftwich went on to say, “We would like to remind everyone how important personal flotation devices are.  These situations are always extremely tragic and we can only hope we can prevent similar incidents in the future.”
