CITRUS HEIGHTS -- The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department is investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting.
The shooting happened on Brahms Court near Andante Drive on Thursday evening. Streets in the area have been blocked off as deputies investigate.
According to the sheriff's department, officers responded to a domestic dispute call around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
When officers arrived, they spoke with the woman involved, but the man had already left. Just as the officers were about to leave, the man confronted and surprised them with an "edged weapon."
Officers said they felt an imminent threat and one officer fired his weapon numerous time at the man, who was described as a 40-year-old white man.
It is not known if the initial dispute between the man and woman was physical or verbal. The man reportedly lived in the area.
No deputies were hurt.
The sheriff's department said the officer who fired the shots is a 14-year veteran assigned to North Field Services. He has been placed on paid administrative leave.
Homicide detectives and the inspector general are investigating the shooting.
